Voices From Our Families

My mother joined the Social Day Program after we noticed she was becoming quieter at home. Within a few weeks, she was describing the craft sessions during our evening calls. The staff take the time to actually know her — that matters more than I can say.

We moved my father into Residential Comfort after he had a fall at home. The transition was handled so carefully — nothing felt rushed. He tells us the meals are the best part of his day, and he has genuinely made friends with a few of the other residents.

My aunt has lived in Phuket for many years. When she needed more support, I was worried about managing things from abroad. The resident coordinator has been exceptional — clear updates, no pressure, and always willing to get on a call when I need reassurance.

My grandmother participated in the day programme three times a week for about eight months before she moved into full residence. The fact that she already knew the staff and the space made all the difference. There was no adjustment anxiety, just continuity.

My father has been in the Intensive Care Residence following a stroke. The nursing team's level of attention has been thorough and warm in equal measure. The rehabilitation sessions have helped him regain meaningful mobility — more than we had hoped for at this stage.

I was uncertain about residential care for my mother — she is an independent person and I worried it would feel limiting. Lumivara has surprised us both. Her private space feels genuinely hers, the garden gives her somewhere to sit, and she is less lonely than she was at home.

In Their Own Words

Three Journeys at Lumivara

Story One

The Situation

A retired teacher in her late seventies living alone in Phuket. Her adult children, working in Bangkok and Singapore, noticed increasing social withdrawal and mild memory lapses during visits.

The Path Forward

She began attending the Social Day Program three days a week. The structure and company suited her independent nature. After six months, she chose to transition to Residential Comfort on her own terms.

Where She Is Now

Eighteen months into residential living, she assists the activity facilitator with the Thai craft workshops — something she finds deeply meaningful and which keeps her mind and hands engaged daily.

"She says she feels useful here. That is worth everything to us." — Daughter, Singapore

Story Two

The Situation

A European expat in his early eighties, resident in Phuket for over twenty years. Following a significant stroke, his mobility and speech were substantially affected, requiring skilled care around the clock.

The Path Forward

He moved into the Intensive Care Residence within a fortnight of discharge from hospital. The nursing team coordinated with his specialist, and a tailored rehabilitation programme was established.

Progress Over Time

Over seven months, he regained the ability to move independently with a walker and now participates in the garden programme and afternoon film screenings. His family visits regularly from Europe.

"The staff know him — not just his condition. That makes a real difference." — Son, Frankfurt

Story Three

The Situation

A couple in their mid-seventies who both needed some level of daily support. Their children wanted to avoid separating them but struggled to find a setting that could accommodate differing care needs.

The Solution

Both joined Lumivara — one in Residential Comfort, the other in the Intensive Care tier. Adjacent rooms, shared mealtimes, and a coordinated approach meant their daily lives remained intertwined.

The Outcome

Over fourteen months, both have settled comfortably. They take morning walks in the garden together and share afternoon tea most days. Their daughter describes it as the outcome she had hoped for but hadn't quite believed was possible.

"They are together. That was the only thing that mattered." — Daughter, Phuket
